A girl, out for a (really long) run, making her way through the final miles of the Appalachian Trail, on her way to setting the overall record. I had the opportunity to spend 24 hours with Tara and her crew near the very end of the FKT. We were in Western North Carolina, in a section of the mountains I hold especially dearly. I snapped photo and video references as the sun was setting during a long pacing section up and over Cheoah Bald, and this image of Tara running through a rhododendron tunnel really stuck with me.
A mere five days after Tara successfully broke the record, Hurricane Helene struck our beloved Southern Appalachia with shocking force. I had already talked to Tara about the idea of doing this print, and it quickly became apparent that we could leverage my skills as an artist and Tara’s legendary feat to raise money to support hurricane recovery.
